Monday in my Clean and Organized Studio

I've been overcome with a desire to play with glitter and stamps, so I decided the first thing I would do in my new space was Play!  It was a crazy busy weekend, and so today was my first real chance to spend some good time in there.  Although, every chance I got, I would just go stand in there and look around, pleased with myself and imagining all the fun I'm going to have.

I like to add pretty tags to my products when I mail them out, and of course I'll need some gift tags for the upcoming holidays.  I started with some playing cards, one of my favorite canvases is would seem!  I lightly sanded the surface on front and back.  Taking the glossy coating off helps the paint to stick.  Then I painted a thin layer of gesso and let that dry.

Now that I know where more of my art supplies are, I can actually use them!  I mixed some Nutty Oak Radiant Pearls paint with acrylic medium and glazed the cards with this.  Radiant Pearls are hard to describe.  It's not really paint, but a colored medium used a lot in stamping.  If you paint it on straight, it doesn't ever dry.  You have to add some embossing powder and a heat gun, or add it to acrylic medium.  They are fun and super transparent.

Next I painted a simple design on the background.  This is drying now, so I didn't quite make it to the glitter.

My original idea involved stamping the top layer with these old letter press stamps I found in Iowa last summer.  And I promise there is going to be glitter!  And pretty ribbon:)

And now I will go finish making my soup for dinner.  Did you work on any fun projects today?

  1. Aw, pretty! I need to learn more about gesso- I have three huge canvases that have already been painted on (probably acrylics??) and I want to white them out, and let the kids go to town with a bunch of paints that match our living room. Do I need to use gesso? Or can I use leftover white primer from painting the walls?
