Digital Collage Learning

Africa collage
For eons I've wanted to learn digital collage, but I just never take the time to start learning, until now.   Here is my attempt.  I'm really impatient when it comes to reading instructions and learning how to do things like Photoshop.  I much prefer classes where someone tells me what to do and I do it.  I didn't have a class, so I used the fairly easy to follow instructions on this blog post.  I started with some pictures that my oldest son took earlier this year while he was in Africa.  He is such a world traveler.  Today is his birthday.  27.  How on earth could 27 years have gone by? Early this morning, very very early, I was suddenly wide awake.  It was about the same time that I was woken by contractions those 27 years ago.   It seems both, like another lifetime and only yesterday.  So much has happened since then.

Back to the collage!  So I cut and pasted the photos together, and next I started adding layers using brushes.  You can get some fun and free downloadable brushes at this site.  The first layer, on top of the photograph, is an ornamental brush, then I added a large map, and finally a border.  It was fun.  I want to keep learning.  What's cool about digital art is there are no messes to clean up!

So DH is having his first full-day back at the office today.  It was so odd having him get out of bed before me, and to leave in the dark.  I've become very protective over the last couple of months and I don't want to let him out of my sight.  I do relish the idea of having the house to myself all day.

I do have a friend coming over to craft.  I've been really inspired by this blog post, and my friend and I are going to try our hands at paper clay ornaments.

I guess I'll go finish those tags I started yesterday.  What are you doing today?

  6. My baby girl is 9 months old today. I enjoyed reflecting on your comment about feeling like another lifetime and yesterday at the same time. In no time I'll be thinking the same thing.

Thanks for sharing so many wonderful ideas. I've tried a few of your crochet patterns now and enjoy your creativity.
