I'm back home. I missed you guys! We had a wonderful week in Iowa, and I am glad to be home again.
My brothers picked us up in Minneapolis and we messed around there for awhile.
We went to the Science Museum of Minnesota and saw the Dead Sea Scrolls. They had a camera obscura outdoors. This is the view from inside; that's DH being a goose.
So we had to make our own camera obscura. Well, actually my younger brother made it. The rest of us watched and cheered him on. This is a box sized model; we put my camera lens through the hole and took a picture of the inside.
On Monday we went to pay our respects to Rock and Roll legends Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and The Big Bopper. They played their last gig in Clear Lake, Iowa. Their plane crashed in this cornfield, right outside Clear Lake, as they were heading to Minnesota.
This is the Surf Ballroom, where they played.
The Surf has the coolest wallpaper. It was like stepping back in time inside this venue.
We did a lot of driving between my brother's house and our mom's house. During which we saw lots of beautiful Iowa landscapes.
A lot of corn.
And on our last evening there, a wonderful sunset to draw the visit to a close.
Now that I'm home I have lots of puttering around the house to do. Whenever I come home from a visit away, I feel a strong urge to clean house and nest. I think it has something to do with marking my territory - lol!
Before I left for Iowa, I was contacted by the folks at Violet Hill Boutique, a new brick and mortar store up in Logan; they found me on Etsy and want to sell my paintings in their store. That means I need to be gathering them up, preparing them for travel, and doing the accompanying paperwork to go with them. I'll be taking some of my paintings out of the Etsy store, so I need to get busy painting more to replace them!
Check out my Flickr page for more Iowa photos!

ReplyDeleteWonderful photos Bobbi! I know what you mean when you get home from a vacation--it's such a refreshing feeling to be back.
ReplyDeleteAnd how great that this company contacted you to sell your work!
Haha- and I ALREADY had songs from Music Man stuck in my head!
ReplyDeleteAren't the Dead Sea Scrolls amazing? We saw the exhibit when it was here. Glad you're back safe!
Oh, and huge congrats on the boutique job- that's fantastic!
ReplyDeleteA strong urge to clean house????
ReplyDeleteWhat's up with that????????
I got a kick out of the stuff left at the Buddy Holly site---people are always leaving piles of things at Wild Bill Hickok's grave here in Deadwood. So odd......
And so cool about the boutique! Awesome!!!
Rock on.
