More Crochet Coral

I know I promised a tutorial today, but apparently my mad math skills are not quite what I thought.  It's more of that thinking ahead stuff I was talking about last week.  Only this time, I really did think I was thinking ahead!  At any rate, my mistake called for another trip to the fabric store, and on the way there I got a speeding ticket.  A speeding ticket!!  I haven't done that in ten years!  Needless to say, the tutorial has been delayed.  The fabric is in the washer now.

Instead I'll show you some pictures of our coral reef progress.  The reef continues to grow!  Here are the pieces I've been collecting from our crocheters.  It's looking good, isn't it?

Remember this piece that I was going to felt?  I crocheted for what felt like forever.  I thought it was never going to get big enough, and of course because I was doing the hyperbolic crochet, the outer edge was getting longer and longer, while the volume grew at a much slower pace.  This is another one of those think ahead things...... After I had been crocheting forEVER, I suddenly realized that I was using superwash wool.  It is never going to felt. Crap!!  I did try.  I put it in the washer, in a zippered pillow case, with some rocks.  I thought that might help a little:)  Mehh!  I still may go back with a felting needle and some roving to try to create the fan coral as planned.

I can never remember what these are called.  Tube sponges?  Anyone want to help with the taxonomy on this one?  I used cotton yarn on this one.

I did this one yesterday, a little sea urchin.  I used acrylic yarn, a small hook, and tight tension to get a form that holds its shape very nicely.

Alright, I'll go put the fabric in the drier.  I will give it my very best effort to get the tutorial to you by Friday.  Maybe someone else should teach the math part though;)
