Kids, I'm starting to panic a little. It's still a quiet panic, but it's there just under the surface. Remember I said I wanted to finish my swans this week? Everything I do always takes me so much longer than I expect it to, but this process is very slow.
And it's not because I haven't been on task. I work day and night, until my arm and fingers feel like they're going to fall off. I have taken a break here and there to attend to my shop, bathe, things like that. I've even cooked dinner a couple times this week, because nobody brought me casserole, pot pie, bean and cheese burrito, or leftovers {wink}.
This little bit got me caught up. I'm using wool yarn to cover the beaks and aside from breaking a number of needles (!) I'm having trouble smoothing out the lines. I want a smooth, cohesive fabric, and I still have ridges.
I put the beaks aside for now and made four wing bases. These will be sewn to the sides of the shoe "bodies" and then I'll attach the crocheted wings to them.
In addition to the fine silk yarn I have for the wings and tails, I decided I wanted something thicker and stiffer to go under the silk yarn. I spun this out of the wool. It's a very rough, primitive yarn, not something you want to knit a sweater out of! There are still bits of grass in there.
But just perfect for what I have in mind. I love the juxtaposition of rough and primitive against delicate and refined. These will be the tails.
Rose has been helping. She's in love with the wool. She's giving it lovey paws here. I think she said she wants a pet lamb:)
We have our first Sundance film of the season tonight. The Troll Hunter. It's going to be scary! I bet it takes my mind off swans for awhile. Then on Sunday we're seeing another, but I don't remember which. I'll tell you Monday.
What are you doing this weekend?

Can't wait to see the finished product!! This weekend...Saturday is chores around the house and a DATE NIGHT :) Sunday is dinner with my family and my BIL's mom- she's from HK, and she's cooking. I'm excited ;)
ReplyDeletePlease repeat: everything is going swimmingly. I am in the midst of a genius creative spurt. My blog pals are sending me all kinds of great energy so that I can happily complete this labor of love.
ReplyDeleteSo, no burritos ... I really would bring them over if you were in my neck of the woods or vice versa ... but love, light, and an infusion of great energy.
You really are doing wonders kiddo!
Jan
No, actually, I think Rose is saying "Give me your Nutella...."
ReplyDeleteWow. Does she ever look blissed out over that wool!
It looks like you are making great progress!
Spinning, poking, crocheting....wow!
It's all coming together wonderfully Bobbi. You will get it finished and it will be beautiful like everything you do. If we lived closer I would provide you and Craig with dinners...or at least be having you over for dinner. Kim and Randy and kids came over for steaks, grilled veggies, salad and chocolate cake this evening....I'll send you virtual meals :). Your progress is always impressive to me even though you doubt yourself.
ReplyDeleteWish I could be at Sundance with you guys!
Rose just makes me giggle. Entitled bitchy kitty that she is!
Thinking of you always.
