It's cold, dark, and dreary here in Utah today. What's it doing where you are? Let's make some snowflakes to brighten up the day! This is another quick and easy holiday craft, made all the better because we get to play with glitter!
First you need some paper squares. I like using old book pages. I especially love the elaborate font in this old German textbook.
Fold a paper in half diagonally.
Then fold it in half again.
And again....
And again. Just keep folding until it you can't anymore or it looks like it will be too thick to cut if you go farther.
Snip that bottom off.
Now, cut away from the edges, leaving some area on the folds to hold the paper together. Varying how you cut the bottom will give you different effects with the points of the snowflake.
Carefully unfold the paper. You can iron it to flatten it out better.
Next, put a few dabs of glue. I like using this glue pen for this step. It's easy and I don't get my hands sticky;) Working quickly, draw lines around the cut edges. You're not going for full coverage here, just some squiggly lines.
Then sprinkle some glitter over the glue.
Use a needle to string each snowflake on different lengths of white thread. Now hang your snowflakes in the window to tempt the sun to come back out:)
Do you have a busy weekend planned? How's the shopping and cookie baking coming along? Are you making any of your gifts?
I have a little snowman hat I'm trying to work out, then I'll have another tutorial for you! I'll see you again on Monday. Have a great weekend!
That glue pen looks genius...we haven't made snowflakes yet this year, we should!
ReplyDeleteBobbi, I love these! Using vintage book pages is genius and it gives the snowflakes so much character and charm. Hope you are doing well. I finally posted the prompt for the photography challenge. I'm excited to get started again. :)
ReplyDeleteWe are getting enough of the "real thing" here in Deadwood today to not want to make more snowflakes.....
ReplyDeleteUgh.
But I do remember making paper snowflakes as a kid.
Minus the glitter.
And the cool glue pen.
Very neat-o.
Love them! I made some paper ornaments this year too, but did not attempt snowflakes! Your paper ornaments are so pretty!
ReplyDeleteI made some paper snowflakes this year, too - for our cozy apartment's patio door. I used different color pages from old National Geographic issues and tried to make a distinct pattern for each one.
