Vintage is the photo prompt this week over at life through the lens... When I read the prompt, I knew immediately what I was going to photograph. My Jewel Tea Autumn Leaf china is one of my most treasured possessions. My father was the original collector; at some point it must have ended up on my grandmother's table (as evidenced by the photo below), and later was stored in boxes for years before it came to me. I use it every day, and it usually shows up at least once a week in my blog photos! It's just so photogenic! On her blog, Kristi mentions that what is significant to her about vintage items is the story. That is what I feel about this china set.
It has so much story and is a link to my ancestors. Every time I eat off of one of these plates, I am using the same plate that my grandmother served her famous fried chicken on. In fact, I can't tell for sure, but I think that platter in the photo is piled with her chicken. She's in the red dress, standing up at the back. She loved red. My grandpa is the man in the white shirt, in the bottom right. The others are great aunts and uncles and in the dark blue dress at the back is my great grandmother. I just love the pretty white head wraps the ladies are wearing. I think I'll crochet some and sell them in my shop;)
And now I am going to go bake a pumpkin pie in my Jewel Tea pie plate:) See you on Friday!
Hi Bobbi, I can see why you use this every day! Such a nice pattern. I wouldn't box it or store it for special occasions either. Very nice photograph. ~Theresa

I love your china and the wonderful story behind it. I love vintage and what a story just a single item can hold. Lovely photos.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful... your story and picture made me think of my grandmother's table. The china, the crystal. And isn't that just what photo's and those vintage keepsakes are intended to do? A remembrance of past times. Just absolutely wonderful.
