Quiet. That elusive chimera, mythical beast. Quiet is the photo prompt this week over at life through the lens... I feel like I am constantly in search of quiet. A quiet mind, quiet life. I was thinking about how funny it is that at the end of summer, I start looking forward to the quiet of autumn and winter when things calm down, but in reality as soon as you finish up with that last flourish of yard work, you have the start of - what is it my friend Lalie calls it? - Hallowthanksmas. That's a whirlwind three months, so really the quiet doesn't come until January and February.
I couldn't decide which of these I liked best; what do you think? the cropped or the full picture?
What are your favorite ways to enjoy quiet? Mine are:
1. Sitting in silence. No music. No TV. Only the birds and the wind.
2. Knitting.
3. Puttering around the house, arranging things on shelves and tables, and decorating for Hallowe'en.
4. Flipping through a beautiful magazine and drinking a cup of afternoon coffee.
5. Writing in my journal.
All of this talk of quiet has actually done wonders for quieting my noisy brain. I think I'll go do some quiet crocheting to get ready for this weekend's Beehive Craftival.
How do you carve out quiet time for yourself?
That third picture is really neat! Quiet time....comes every night when the kids go to bed :) There are so many things I could be doing, but I just sit and work on the computer next to my hubby.
ReplyDeleteI like the cropped picture best. After raising four busy and boisterous kids, I am basking in quiet. :-)
ReplyDelete*I notice quiet/calm when I am walking on our road in Vermont.
*When I sit on the front step with my afternoon tea.
*On road trips without cd's or radio.
Bobbi - I love the last pic. So interesting!! I enjoyed your thoughts, too! We always do look for that quiet time (or time for ourselves). Maybe sometime before Valentine's Day you can enjoy a cup of tea.
ReplyDeleteHallowthanksmas...how funny! It is true, life gets really crazy around the holidays. I love all of your images but, I especially love the first one because of the detail. My quiet time is reading right before I go to bed and then writing down a list of all the things I need to do the next day. It helps me clear my head before I go to sleep.
ReplyDeleteI love the cropped photo and all the detail it shows. Quiet is a lot of different things but I think you captured it so well. I love to knit too...well, I am just learning but I love it so far, and it does bring a sense of quiet and peace.
ReplyDeleteI really like the crop photo.Beautiful colors.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite quiet time is in the garden.Working away while meditating ......in the cold months knitting, crocheting, painting and all the other crafts are my sanity.
Oh I like all of these shots, too hard to choose. I like the composition of all three. They are all fabulous.
ReplyDeleteI think there is a lovely stillness captured in the first shot which I find really calming.
It is really hard to find peaceful time. But what I love about this weeks inspiration is it makes me realise we all should make more time for it. Life is just too busy some days. We should all make time to smell the roses, so to speak.
Have a lovely weekend xox
