One of my favorite summertime treats is iced coffee. I got this from my dad; he started drinking iced coffee when he was in Japan in the service. As I was growing up, he always had a giant glass of iced coffee on the table in front of him or beside his chair. When I was little, I would sneak up and snatch sips, when I thought he wasn't looking. I wasn't fooling anybody; he always knew, but I thought drinking iced coffee out of my dad's glass was the coolest thing in the world. I was five.
To make a really good glass of iced coffee, first brew some strong coffee. Put it in the fridge to chill.
Freeze some into cubes. And you should use a cute ice cube tray like this one to make iced jewels. It really does make it taste better. Ok ok, maybe it's the coffee that makes it taste better;)
Pour your chilled coffee over the cubes and add some milk. Add some sweetener if you want. I prefer my sugar in the form of a pastry; I don't like to taint the coffee with it. Now plant yourself on the front porch, sip your iced coffee, and enjoy one of the last days of summer:)
...i would skip the sweetener and add a wee squeeze of chocolate syrup to the mix...to make an iced mocha.

ReplyDeleteI never thought to freeze the coffee for the ice cubes. Great idea. I remember it being love at first taste when I first tried iced coffee!!!
ReplyDeleteI love iced coffee! Usually I just pour the left over morning coffee over ice in the afternoon, but your fancy ice cubes looks much more exciting!
