Crafty Stuff

bauble garland
A short time ago, I found this nifty tutorial on Ravenhill and decided I wanted to make some buttons too!  I chose to make mine into a garland, and took the parts with me to Iowa for a busy hands project.

I cut the buttons out and stuffed them before I left, and I made myself a little kit with crochet thread and hook, a large needle, and the baubles.  While sitting around chatting with my family, I crocheted little balls and stuffed them with cotton; I put these on a crochet chain between between each stuffed button.  I also added a little crochet embellishment to each button.

I made one for my mother and one for my sister-in-law.  My mother's husband kept asking me what I was doing.  I didn't want to say that I was making presents for the ladies, so I just said "I'm making baubles", and later, "I'm crocheting dingleberries."  He has Alzheimer's, so this question and the answers were repeated over and over.  I had everyone calling them baubles and dingleberries.  Now bauble is ok, but dingleberries isn't so nice!  So the crochet balls became strawberries or raspberries.  Much better:)

The button tutorial was really easy to follow.  If you haven't checked out Emily's blog at Ravenhill, please do; your eyes will be happier for it.  I found her blog when I read the book Blogging for Bliss.  Emily's work is beautiful and her blog is truly blissful!

Ciao!
