I mentioned on Friday that I had yet another chocolate birthday cake to bake. DH had decided that he wanted Black Forest Cherry Cake; after searching around I decided upon this recipe. It looked pretty simple. I gathered all my ingredients, then sat on the porch and pitted cherries - such a summery fun activity!
While the cake baked, I scraped chocolate shavings for the final decoration. The three cake pans in the oven seemed a little crowded, and worried about them not baking evenly, I thought I should rearrange the pans half way through the baking time.
As I was moving the pans around it struck me - THIS IS A SPONGE CAKE!! I shouldn't even be sneaking a peek at the cakes much less moving them around!!! What was I thinking?? So this is what happened to all three layers.
Nothing that a bunch of brandy soaked cherries and a pile of whipped cream can't fix!
The table turned out pretty, even with all the mismatched linens and wine glasses.
And the birthday boy was happy. And that is what really mattered in the end;)
I think this was my favorite yet, what a fun weekend!! Craig needs to have more birthdays!
ReplyDeleteglad that he enjoyed his bday .
ReplyDeleteWho wouldn't be happy? I mean, to have someone care enough to bake me a cake ... it could turn into cinders and I'd still be sporting a cheshire cat grin! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you DW for an amazing cake, and a wonderful weekend - made better because you were there.
ReplyDeleteYUM! Such a gourmet cook, I'm quite impressed :) What a lucky husband!
