Monday Morning - Not in the Studio

I'm going on a hike instead!  I need to escape for a little while, go commune with nature.  But first before I go, I'll give you a little run down on what I saw at the Utah Arts Festival.

DaveBorba
Our friend Dave Borba had a booth.  He makes the most wonderful mixed-media folk art inspired pieces.
Dave Borba
This was my favorite thing in the entire festival.  The picture is a little blurry.  All of his work is interactive; I love art you can touch!  On this one, there is a string you pull and the wings raise.  I'm going to have to save my money for some of his art.
Vladimir Ovtcharov
This artist, Vladimir Ovtcharov, had beautiful fantasy style paintings.

shaman of the arts
I've named this guy the Shaman of Arts.  Beautiful.

ririe woodbury
There was much dancing.  Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company was there.

flash mob
These young Ririe-Woodbury dancers did a flash mob performance.

white pants guy
Since we've moved to Utah, we see this fellow at every outdoor event, and he is always dancing.  He also always wears white pants.  He has become a constant for me here, a touchstone of sorts.  I didn't see him last summer and I found myself very upset and disoriented by this.  I don't know his name, but everyone knows who I'm talking about when I say "you know, the white pants guy".

Robert Wilhelm
I loved these pepper grinders by Robert Wilhelm.

alex
Our friend Alex Caldiero, an amazing poet, had his Poetarium booth, another interactive event.  Slips of paper were passed out that you used to "purchase" your poem.  You got to choose between a Sicilian proverb, or a poem performed in tongues, sound, or images.

I meant to take a picture of what I brought home from the festival, but darn it I forgot.  And I have to run now, so I'll have to show you that later.

Have a good Monday!

  4. I hope the Shaman of the Arts didn't have his cart parked there for more than 30 minutes....I would hate to see it towed.

And I can see why you were upset when the White Pants fellow went missing last year. There is a guy at my Mom's assisted living facility that usually is all dressed in yellow. Including big fedora and snazzy shoes. With a red, white and blue cane. He whistles all the time and I've heard him sing---most excellent. I would really miss seeing him.

    Hope your hike was good.....
