In the Garden

garden box
Have I told you about this magic box I have in my backyard?

chard and onions
Where everyday I go pick tons of chard and arugula and beet greens for our dinner, and the next day I go back outside and the box is full again!  It's magic I tell you!

any day now
We should be having our first peas this week:)

peppers and eggplant
The peppers and eggplant are plugging along.  I'm worried about that one eggplant up front there.  Something is eating him bad.  I am suspecting something other than snails.  I have seen some baby grasshoppers in here.

beet
I was surprised to find this yesterday morning!  I think I'll eat it for lunch today:)

tomato baby
The first baby tomato.  It's a Juane Flamme.  If you look close, there are actually four babies in this picture.

future secret garden
This unsightly mess is my future Secret Garden.  Back in the corner where that corn looking plant is, I want to put a lilac.  The corn stuff is some sort of false bamboo.  It's actually illegal to plant, as it is an invasive, non-native species.  It came with the house.  I've been trying to get it out and it's practically impossible to dig up.  The base is rock hard and I can't get a shovel through it.  DH?  Where are you?

Anyway, back against the fence, I want to put down paving stones and create a little sitting area.  I'll continue the path on out, hooking up one day with another stone path I have already.  I want to get rid of all of the grass back there and fill it in with various perennials, similar to this path.  And I will put in creeping thyme and other low growing ground covers as well.  This is going to take awhile, but it sure is fun.

honeysuckle

The entire length of my driveway is lined with this honeysuckle.  It smells so good, especially in the early evening after a warm day.  My house is filled with this scent.

Well, actually right now my house is filled with the burning scent of the dirty oven I'm preheating to bake a loaf of bread.  Hopefully soon the house will be filled with the aroma of baking bread, because this is burning my nose.  Maybe I should clean the oven (!)  Hmmm. Or not.

  3. YUM! It all looks so amazing! Honeysuckle is threatening to take over our entire fence, side yard and certain trees... but it does smell lovely! Nice job on the garden.
