In the Kitchen

a better slaw

I was doing some menu planning the other day, going through some of my favorite recipes I found online, and I thought it would be fun to share some of my favorite recipes and cooking blogs with you.  Most I've probably posted here before, but just consider it food proselytizing.

First, I found a new favorite.  I'm going to be making this cabbage and lime slaw again and again.  I got it from the Smitten Kitchen blog, which is one I always go to when I'm stumped for what to cook.  What I love about her recipes is they are easy, healthy, and so very yummy always.  They tend to include foods that can be found local, in season, and she also shares tantalizing dessert recipes.  The slaw was amazing; I think next time I will add just a bit of chile powder to give it some extra zing.  At any rate, I'll be eating these leftovers for lunch today.  My stomach is growling now!

Other favorite recipes I've gotten from the Smitten Kitchen site are: this use for rhubarb, the Shakshuka, the chocolate stout cake that my friends go ga-ga over, this take on panzanella.  I could go on and on about her recipes.

Other favorites that I keep in my repertoire are these lemon cookies from Cannelle et Vanille.  Her blog is so full of gorgeous food styling photography!  Aran is super helpful with any questions you have about her recipes.  And those cookies are addictive.  The really bad thing is, there are some in my kitchen right now.  Calling my name.

Most of my favorite food blogs are baking blogs, unfortunately.  But they tend to be the prettiest and I do love to bake.  It's better for my figure though if I just look at pictures of what other people have baked!  So I visit blogs like Tartelette, La Tartine Gourmande, and Confessions of a TartOrangette has lots of good recipes, again focusing on healthy, good food.

Ok, now I've managed to make myself absolutely starving!  Cabbage slaw it is.  I will try to stay away from the lemon cookies, but there isn't a very good chance of that now.  After lunch I'm going to clean out my pantry and take some pictures for a fun game we're going to play tomorrow!  (hee hee! fun for me!)  Have a fabulous day!

Doesn't that consist of opening the fridge door and seeing what is in there???

Tonight I'm making homemade pizza. I'm carmelizing onions and roasting garlic and using lots of different cheeses.

I miss you and wish you were here drinking margs with us for cinco de mayo.
