Wildflower Walk

april 4, 2012_24
Mom and I set out on our daily walk today.  I grabbed the camera, with the short lens (don't you like my technical terms?).  My focus today was looking down mostly for plants, rather than up for birds.  I tried to ignore them chirping in the trees!

I had to look up for this!  He was so funny, doing stunts and showing off.

Lots of goods stuff down below.

This is the same stump I photographed in December, now dressed in spring finery.

Violets are everywhere!  There are three different purple colors that I've seen.  Oddly, they don't smell like violets.

Heart sticker memories of my granddaughter's visit in November.

Not sure what this tree is; it smells so good!

Darn feral cats!
Damn feral cats!  I've been trying so hard to get a picture of a cardinal with no luck, then today I find this all together in the driveway.

I looked everywhere for a nest. My nature encyclopedia friend told me that the feathers look like they are from a female, and that the egg was probably left over after the cat's feast.

So after keeping the egg warm until I could figure out what to do with it, including searching everywhere for a nest, I decided to add it to the nature altar in the crook of a tree.

Days can disappear fast when you're wandering around outside in the sun!

  1. Circle of life, as my dad continually tells me (while regaling me with stories of bald eagles vs. robins outside his cabin window. The eagles always win.) So fantastic that your mom is up and taking walks!!
