A Little Pampering

Home made foot soak
One of my goals for this year is to practice better self care.  This includes exercising, eating right, and taking care of my hideous feet!  I have the most horrid, frightening feet really.  People tell me they're cute, but they just haven't been close enough.  I have thick, nasty calluses, and toenails that could seriously use some pink nail polish.  Eww!  I wonder how many people have clicked away already!  Ha ha!  I promise not to show any pics of my feet:)  But I will give you a super simple recipe for some foot pampering.

Get some plain old everyday epsom salts from the store, and some essential oils.  I am using tea tree for its anti-fungal and healing properties; it's a really good one for your feet.  Also, I'm putting in peppermint because it smells good and feels good.  Lavender would be a nice oil to use.  You will also need a bowl, a spoon, and a jar with a lid.   A pretty ribbon will come in handy, too.

Pour about two cups of epsom salts in the bowl.  Add about 15-20 drops of peppermint oil, depending on how much minty freshness you want on your feet.  Then add a goodly amount of tea tree oil.  I added about a teaspoon.

Stir it up real well.

Next, scoop the salts into your jar.

Tie a ribbon on, and voilà, a present for you!  Add about 1/2 cup of the prepared salts to nice, warm water in a basin.  Now go soak your feet and read a book.  You deserve it!

  1. Mmm...sounds amazing :) Feet really get a bum rap, don't they? Carrying us around, they take a beating! (Is that a smudge stick in the background of the last photo?)

  2. Myrnie, it's actually a lavender wand I had laying around. I felt like my photo needed something up in that corner! ha ha!

  4. Forgive me for sounding ignorant but I am relatively new at most of this diy 'stuff' ...where is the best place (aka cheaper place) to find the oils?

  5. Hey Sarfi! I usually get my oils at a local shop here in SLC. Here is their website:

They have good quality oils at reasonable prices. You can also get NOW and Aura Cacia brand oils from Amazon fairly inexpensively. I think those oils work well for things like this:)

  6. Are these the only ingredients you need>? Or do you need sea salt and baking soda as well>?

  7. @Kerry, these are the ingredients I use. I have seen a link coming from Pinterest where she has changed the ingredients (and the photo). I have wondered about using the baking soda; I think it might add an extra softening agent. I suspect that the baking soda would sift to the bottom of the jar and it would have to be mixed repeatedly.

  8. Bobbi I just made some of this for my diabetic friends' Christmas gift baskets. The peppermint will be a nice spa treat. Need to make more so I can have some. I got your link from that incorrect one on Pinterest. I tried to pin from your site but no image came up for me to use. So as a poor substitute I have changed the description on the pin that uses your recipe. Hopefully my Christmas Cheer followers will repin it and you will get your credit. Thanks for the wonderful recipe!

  9. @Emelia, I think there must have been a glitch. I tried to pin it also and it was blank, then when I came back to it a few minutes later it worked. Here is a link to the pin on my board
