My Field Trip - a report by Bobbi

snowy landscape
So yeah, I've had cabin fever and so I went on a field trip Monday, to the bird refuge and surrounding areas.  Looks cold out there, doesn't it?

bird popsicles
The birds look cold too!  I'm afraid it just wasn't a very good day for photos.  The birds were all pretty far away, and even with the zoom, this is the best I could do.

eagles and ravens
But I got to see things I've never seen before, and that was exciting!  On this land bridge and around there were well over a hundred bald eagles.  I've seen one at a time, but never a group like this!

It was amazing to watch them soar.  There is a photography blind there.  Someday I'd like to sneak back and get some good close ups.  It didn't work on Monday, because they were already alerted to our presence.  If we had sat in the blind for an hour they would have forgotten about us - but it was COLD out there!

sunset
I did have fun playing with the phone camera.  The sunset was pretty amazing.

haunted house
Ok, this wasn't at the bird refuge, but I like it.  DH and I went out to eat Saturday night.  This old, abandoned and boarded up house was next door to the restaurant.  The city lights reflecting off the snow and the moisture in the air made for some spooky lighting.

Apparently we have more snow and rain coming and my peas were supposed to be planted last week.  So I am going to get my rear outside, amend my garden bed, and plant some peas and onions!

Off I go!

  1. So gorgeous! We had light like that the other night...totally tripped me out :) I could see across the yard, with no extra lights on!

  2. What a great sense of things larger than us I get from your post. Love the eagles and other birds, even if they are at a distance. And the sunset shot is way cool along with the scary old boarded up brown-light cast house.

    Cool field trip Bobbi! :O)

  3. Oh, I love field trips!

Such a cool place for you to go. Thanks for taking me along!

I love seeing the big birds---eagles, hawks, turkey buzzards---the way they can ride the currents is just a joy to watch.

I even like to watch turkeys flap around and attempt to fly.

Your phone photos are awesome, too!

  5. I loved your photos, Bobbi! Very cool about all the eagles... I went eagle viewing up a river here and didn't see that many. Also, totally cool shot of that haunted-looking house!
