Garden Update

cherry tomato
There was recently a request for tomato pics;)  So here ya go.  This is my first tomato to ripen.  It's a red cherry and I'm hoping to eat it later today.  This pic was taken yesterday.

juane flamme
These are the Juane Flamme.  They are a medium size, orange tomato.  I'll eat him tomorrow maybe.  I am SO hungry for tomatoes!

herb garden fail
This is a picture of my heart breaking.  Actually it's my herb bed that I have planted over and over and over.  So same thing really.  I've planted parsley, cilantro, and dill seeds I don't know how many times now.  The first batch was coming up good, then one morning they were just gone.  gone.  With not so much as a fare thee well.   I planted basil transplants a couple times.  Eaten.  I've seeded and reseeded and I get nothing.  When I think I see something coming up... it disappears.

basil babies
I decided to go back to the pot for the basil.  I am guarding these guys vigilantly.

Thai Basil
This is Thai basil that I started from transplants.  All the ones I put in the ground are gone, but these, as you can see, are thriving.  It is heartbreaking for me to not have my favorite annual herbs.  I love love love to cook summer meals, and these rely on basil, dill, and cilantro.  With the hot weather now, it's too late to even get them at the farmer's market

Zucchini
Oh and here's a good one!  At a time when other folks are starting to be overrun with zucchini, I have a plant that only has male flowers!!  Can you believe that?  Have you ever had this happen?  At least I can have stuffed blossoms.

larkspur and borage
So when I'm feeling frustrated over the no-basil and no-zucchini, I just walk over to this part of the garden and look at my borage and larkspur, and that makes me happy:)

  2. Oh your poor herbs..I guess cheap beer was no match for those snails! I've only had luck growing basil in a huge pot (I stuck 8 plants in a pot that had held a large tree or rhodie, maybe 2 feet tall.) I've been meaning to try copper tape- you can lay it around your garden, and the slugs don't like to crawl over it?
