On The Flora and Fauna of my Studio

Can you believe it's June?  When did this happen?  HOW did this happen?  And such an odd spring.  I have this uneasy feeling of having missed something, like coming in late to the movie and missing not only the previews, but the opening scenes.  It seems to have finally warmed up a bit here, but I am still wearing a sweater.  Where's a good hot flash when I need it?  When and if it gets hot this summer, I'll try not to complain too much.  And if I do, just remind me of how cold I've been the last eight months.

I finished my coasters, and am on to making some more.  The thing I run into with these, is try as I might, I just can't get them all the same size.  I measure and mark, but when it's all sewn together they're different.  Not remarkably so, but I notice it.  I guess that is one of the marks of it being handmade, and part of the handmade item's charm.  I'm going to try really hard to get this next set exactly the same size.

I am almost done with the painting.  I still want to scratch out a bit, and I think I want to put a beeswax coating on the top.  That would be appropriate, huh?  This I am very happy with.

I've been working some more on the boxes too.  I enjoy making these.  DH gets this sandalwood soap from Ten Thousand Villages; I recycle the boxes.  They smell very good:)

It's 4 o'clock in the afternoon and I still have a day's worth of stuff I need to do - today!  Our summer social calendar has already ramped up.  DH and I are relative hermits during the winter, so when summer comes and we are gadding about more than once a week, I feel like quite the social butterfly.  And I feel a little overwhelmed.  It's hard for me to keep track of everything I'm supposed to be doing, plus stay on task with all the regular stuff too.  This evening we are going to see our nieces and nephew perform a cello recital.  I should probably wear something a little nicer than what I have on, and I might want to wash the red paint off my forearm.  I'll go do that now.
