Gilgal Gardens

See?!  Happy flowers in the sunshine!  Thanks for putting up with my crabbiness yesterday; you are all so sweet and supportive.  It's great to have the connections of the blog community.

Last week as part of the Strange Salt Lake tour, I showed you some pictures of Gilgal Gardens.  Well, today I want to show you the less scary parts of the park:)

garden paths at gilgal
It had been several years since I had visited the park, and I was quite surprised by what I found.  Last time I was there, I saw that some flowers had been planted and some improvements were being made, but it did not look like this.  There are gorgeous sunlit paths and shaded ones, with roses overflowing and irises standing tall.
Iris and Jupiter's Beard
There were several different kinds of iris, and this pink flower I believe is called Jupiter's Beard.  It's a popular summer bloomer around here - with good reason!  It's stunning!
columbine and rose
I wish I could have gotten a better photo of this purple Columbine; I've never seen one so purple or so dark.  And the roses inspired me to plant some of my own.  I have very stark white fences and I think a trellis with a climbing rose would soften it up a bit.
iris and larkspur
More iris.  I love iris; can you tell?  I've only mentioned them 3 times now.  The violet blue larkspur against the orange poppies painted a pretty picture.
dutch iris and stone wall
Another iris, this is a Dutch Iris.  And this wall wasn't at Gilgal; it was over by Memory Grove.  I just have a thing for stone walls.  My fantasy garden is surrounded by stone walls.

I hope this little flower walk makes up for my negativity yesterday.  I have no idea what herb I'll be talking about tomorrow.  Maybe oregano, it's the only other one big enough yet to really photograph.  Soon there will be borage (one of my favorites!) and cilantro, parsley, calendula (another favorite), and, if I can fight off the snails, some day we'll have basil.  I sure hope so!  Because I'm counting on that basil to accompany some tomatoes and peppers and eggplant, yum!
