Are there any time management experts out there? I could really use some tips and tricks. Over the last few months I've gotten much better about keeping my focus and staying productive during the day, but I still struggle with feeling like I don't get as much done as I want or as I should.
I make lists each day of the things I want to accomplish, and I try to be realistic in what I should expect from myself. Today I started writing down everything I did and how much time I spent on it. I know that one the main places I lose track of time is first thing in the morning, when I sit down to have my coffee; I check my email, my blog, my shop. Then I get led down this path and another, and pretty soon I've been sitting there for an hour and a half. I need to limit that. Most days I chose not to put on make-up or blow dry my hair in order to save some time, but I really think that the few short minutes it takes to do those things will be well made up for in my good feelings about myself.
Back in December, Karen from Sew and Sow Life gave this advice:
#1 doing it all is a mythHe-hem, I started to type, "I do #2 every day" but then I realized how that sounds. It's a good thing right! Omg I'm turning into a teenage boy. If I start sounding loopy, I'm blaming it on the kava tea I just drank. It is definitely having an effect. I'm actually caring less about how much I accomplish today.
#2 prioritize and make lists
#3 make time to appreciate the mundane
#4 move, rest, eat well everyday
#5 figure out what you value most and put your energies there
Anyway, I do try to do these things. I think I probably still spend too much time marveling over the mundane, and I think that I value many, many things and maybe I just can't do it all, or else it's just not in one day. Arrrgg! I still really believe that time is just going by faster, and that there are fewer minutes between 1 and 3, than between 10 and 12.
So, if any of you of you have figured out how to slow down time or to make yourself move faster, please share.
Oh, and speaking of time not being on my side, because I don't know any young girls close at hand, I had to be my own neck model today in order to photograph my new lariat flower necklace I listed in the shop. And let me just say, my Photoshop skills aren't quite at the level of DH's. As soon as I can I have to switch that picture out with one on a younger neck!
Join the club. I feel like this everyday. Seems whenever I get into a groove, something comes up to interrupt.
ReplyDeleteBTW, you have a pretty neck.
Oh my.
ReplyDeleteI think we must have been twins separated at birth.....
Only I think you get more done in a day than I do from what I gather by reading your blog.
And your neck looks better.
;-)
oh dear! my neck is getting quite full of itself now! it keeps turning my head this way and that, posing and preening. I'll never get anything done now;)
ReplyDeleteDearest Bobbi,
ReplyDeleteI SO know what you mean about time speeding up. I can't believe how fast the days slips past. I wake up with so many intentions and then, pow, the day is over. If you can find someway to create that time slowing/stopping machine, let me know. I'll pay you a million dollars for it. (And thanks for stopping by today):0)
Setting the timer helps me. It helps me keep track of how much time I want spend on the computer so that time does not get away from me.
ReplyDeleteI also set a timer or alarm when I'm studying so I get up and take a break every hour.
hello? hello? i STILL struggle with this stuff. two steps forward, one step back, eh? just keep on keepin' on!
