Let's just get this over with. Yes, I admit, I have the TV on the royal wedding today. I'm not sure why. I guess I just am curious about the monarchy. It's interesting to me to see how things have changed over the centuries, and to see what things stay the same.
Now that's out of the way, I can show you my latest project. Actually it's one of those unfinished projects I have lying around.
Every spring and summer I get the urge to sew my own clothes. Part of it is that I love the sensory experience of feeling the fabric, and the scent of the iron on the fabric. The other part is that I have a hard time finding clothes that I like. I started this dress last summer. I washed the linen, pinned and cut out the pattern. Then got distracted.
I have the urge again. Instead of going and buying yet more fabric, I think I should finish what I started. I begin these sewing projects thinking how wonderful it is going to turn out. The linen cotton blend fabric is beautiful. My seams look good; they're lined up right. Then I go to try it on..... And it hangs there like a gunny sack. I'm not talking about the gorgeous, white and blue, Gunne Sax dress I wore to the prom (a looooonnnnngggg time ago!).
If I'm going to be serious about creating my own clothing, I'm going to have to learn how to fit and alter patterns. I have every intention of working on this one some more, which will mean taking some seams out. I'm going to hold off on that a bit. I need to relax, breathe, clear my mind. Then attack it!
Do you have fun plans for this May Day weekend? I wish you sun and flowers and happy times:) See you Monday!
LOVE the color, Bobbi! Yes, fitting patterns is quite a trick, wish I could do it.
ReplyDeleteWe will be working in the yard and going to a local art opening. Looks like a great forecast here...finally!
Mmm...love that blue! This weekend I have a women's conference I'm really looking forward to!
ReplyDeletelooks cute!
ReplyDeleteI think I'm getting this figured out! It may not be the "correct" way to do it, but I compared this dress to one I already own that fits, and I'm going to just take the side seams in on the bodice. It looks like it will work!
ReplyDeleteOh, dear.
ReplyDeleteBetter you than me.
I wouldn't have a clue as to what to do..........
But I do love the color!!!!
