Book Report

I seem to have lost track of my days again.  I'm going to blame it on Weather.com, because when I went to their website yesterday, they still had Tuesday's data up.  So yeah, it's their fault!  Actually, I was busy jumping through more grant hoops.  Today I'm not jumping through anything, so I'll tell you about this book I just read.

Pioneer Woman book

There is a genre of book that I enjoy reading.  Sort of kitchen memoirs, a slice of life with recipes.  Many food bloggers have written these, i.e., The Sweet Life in Paris by David Lebovitz, Confections of a Closet Master Baker by Gesine Bullock-Prado, A Homemade Life by Molly Wizenberg.  All of these were excellent books.  Hoping for more of the same, I bought the book up there in the picture.  Had I read the book jacket, and the words, "a love story", maybe I would have given it more thought before purchasing.  Not likely; I would have just thought she meant a love story with her All-Clad.

Wow.  Reading this book was like reading an ethnography of an alien culture.  It was a cute story, and I was compelled to keep reading to find out what happened next.  Unfortunately it was in a train wreck sort of way, the way I'm drawn to keep watching Dexter or Big Love.  Her life was so foreign to me.  The reality is, I understand Shameless so much better than I understand Drummond's sugar sweet 1950ish life in Oklahoma.

There is a recipe for cinnamon rolls in the back of the book.

What are you doing this week?  I hope you are keeping up with your days better than I am;)

  1. I'm not sure if the book is any different from the story as she wrote it on her blog...it started out as a joke, and people wanted to hear more...and then people asked her to publish it...I have a feeling that if it was totally up to her, she never would have asked anybody to publish that book ;)
