Thursday Shenanigans and the US Mail

I'm really fascinated with the entire idea of mail art and what I can get away with mailing. That's kind of funny considering my postal phobia. It's like I have to test them to see how far I can push it before they prove to me that the post office IS something to fear!
lunch bag mail
So I've been mailing things out every day this week.  They are starting to look at me funny there.  I didn't get yelled at though, even with the lunch bag packaging.  My son is having a birthday, and I decided he needed funny mail.  I went to the dollar store and picked up streamers, happy birthday banners, other crazy stuff and I've been sending it off each day.  Nothing has arrived at his mailbox yet, so I'm a bit concerned.

pelican box
I've also been having fun with some pen pals.

a very long letter
It's such a long letter, I had to put it in a box.

little box
The post office accepted this with the buttons!  Can you believe it?  The guy had a little smirk, but didn't make any remarks.

coloring mail
I didn't even package this.

mail
I just stuck on some labels.

avocet card
Another pen pal letter.  I feel sorry for the recipient; my handwriting is getting as hard to read as my arthritic grandmother's.
egret card
If she can't read it, she can at least look at the pictures.

I haven't forgotten about the swap idea.  I still want to do that and will post more about it in the upcoming days.  Right now though I have to run to the grocery store, or else we're going hungry tonight.  And that would be no fun at all!

  1. Awww, I love all this pretty mail. It makes me want to send some...perhaps to my brother and his fiance in Everett, WA whom I rarely see. :o)
    Thanks for the idea!

  2. I would love to get mail from you, Bobbi :) I always wonder about that too--will the post office refuse to send something if it's too artsy on the outside?! I'm chicken--I've never tried it.

  6. Bobbi I love your creative mail art. I recently received a package from Coffee Messiah that was careful created like your beauties. In fact he is someone you may want to connect with at http://coffeemessiah.blogspot.com

Imagine if all our mail - even the bills - were creatively designed and so thoughtfully sent?

  7. If my bills arrived to me with creative packaging, perhaps I'd be a little more excited about them - lol!

  8. I can't believe you can send them like that! A lady at a post office that I go is like post office nazi (like Seinfeld's soup nazi...) She wouldn't send anything that's not boxed with no commercial labels on ( means I can't just use any boxes but plain mail box) or wrapped with plain brown paper. I pray not to get her when I'm in line every time... lol

  9. That gorgeous pelican box arrived in my mailbox yesterday! I have to say, it's the most beautiful "letter" I have EVER received. I feel so privileged ...

I have to say that the buttons did not complete their journey but the string did.

    Thank you!!

  10. I loved seeing this!

My Dad worked for the post office for 25-30 years...wonder what he would have thought if he had found some of your creative wrapping in his mail bag?!
