Pillows Pillows Pillows - and a free pattern!

zinnia pillow
I've been on a bit of a pillow kick lately.  Remember the pillow I started way back here?  Well, I finally finished the embroidery and sewed the cover together.  I'm trying to keep the cat hair off of this one;)

This one I did using a piece of upholstery sample fabric that I picked up ages ago.  I like decorating with pillows because it's a (relatively) quick and easy way to add a new spark to your environment for little to no money.  All of these I made with materials I already had around the house.

And of course I have to have some granny chic crochet, right?

This one is a wee bit wonky.  For both this one and the zinnia, I used the instructions at Craft Leftovers to make the pillow form.  I really like how it came out for the zinnia pillow; I stuffed it rather loosely.  This one I wanted more firm, but with the odds and ends stuffing, it came out a little - shall we say lumpy.  But, it's a "decorative" pillow, so as long as no one tries to rest their head on it, we're good.  Or their butt for that matter.  I need to take it off the stool!  DH teases me about the "decorative" items I have that are not actually to be used.

Karen blogged a pretty pillow she made,  yesterday over at Sew and Sow Life (I swear I'm not copying you Karen lol!)  You should go have a look:)

And if you would like to make your very own zinnia pillow, pull this image off onto your computer.  You can resize it as you wish and print it out.  Then take a piece of tracing paper, and using an embroidery transfer pencil trace over the design.  Iron it onto your fabric.  Remember that when you iron it the image will be reversed.  I don't think it really matters much in this case, but it you really want some of those longer petals pointing in a certain direction, then you can reverse the image before you print.  If you do make your own pillow, I'd love to see a link to it!

  1. They're lovely! (And wouldn't last three minutes in this house, but that's neither here nor there :) You must be a break-neck crochet-er, the way you whip these things out!
