or what kind of trouble can I get up to today?
For starters, there was this really scary looking, but good tasting breakfast smoothy.
Actually, in the picture it looks more like a chocolate shake - not nearly as scary. I read about green smoothies the other day over here and thought I would try it. They are surprisingly good, and another way to get in some extra greens. I thought I'd be tricky today and add purple kale. It turned the mix brown. Mixed with that green avocado, what was I expecting? Yeah, I'm an artist, doh!
So then I decided I would try dying roving in Kool Aid. First I cut strips of roving and put them in this pretty, vintage Pyrex bowl I found in Colorado this past November. Then I filled it with lukewarm tap water, completely saturating, yet being very gentle with the wool. Isn't that just a lovely bowl? Wet wool smells fuchi!
Strawberry Kool Aid smells good! In a microwave safe bowl, mix your Kool Aid in some water.
Next, very carefully lift the wet wool from the pretty bowl and place it in the one with the red stuff. Oops! The liquid is supposed to cover the wool, so I'll add some more water. Some instructions I read said to put vinegar in the mix and others didn't. I went for the "didn't" because Kool Aid smells better than vinegar.
Then put it in the microwave, and let it go on high for about a minute at a time. You want the water hot, but not boiling, otherwise the wool will felt, which is what I plan to do with it when it's done, but you don't want it to happen yet. And do you know what? My microwave is not baby blue. No, that is the cold. winter. light. Afterward, you let it cool completely, and while it does that the wool will soak up all the color, and the liquid will then be clear. I waited for this batch to cool, and it was a very light pink, not the red I was going for. So I took the wool out, added a couple of big squirts of regular food coloring, and then went through the heating process again. It's cooling now. We'll see how it looks tomorrow after it dries. Then I'll show you what I plan to do with it.
I worked on some more birds. I don't think they will be getting listed on Etsy today, do you? I did list a painting, though.
And I'm making some pretty, pink, Valentine hearts. Wow! This day has been full of pink and red.
See you tomorrow:)

Can you imagine what that stuff does to the insides of one's stomach? Yikes! But what a lovely color for wool....
