A Shoe Update

I thought I'd give you an update on the shoes.  I haven't gotten very far in actual shoe altering.  Not wanting to screw up, I've really been putting time into thinking it all the way through, and working out logistics such as wing construction.  I want the wings to be more or less anatomically correct, even if these are shoe birds!

It was really scary to put the first coat of gesso on that lovely pink satin!

I've jumped in an started turning the shoes blue.  I've been choosing the papers out of which I'll be making the feathers.  I'll cut out feather shapes of various sizes, then paint each individual one before attaching it to the shoe.  Right now I'm thinking I will sew the feathers on.  The wings are really giving me fits.  I just can't see them yet.  I have a strong feeling I'm going to start dreaming about bird wings!  I always seem to work my art problems out in my sleep.

And yet more birds,  this new clutch of hatchlings are brooding in my studio.  They will be up in my Etsy shop this week.  I'm pushing for tomorrow!
