New Work

pelican on linen2

I've been pondering lately the idea of using textiles and traditional needlework in new ways.  As I lay in bed heading towards sleep Friday night, this image began to form in my mind.  Saturday morning I had to get started on it right away, and that is how I spent my weekend!

Don't you love when you get an idea that just resonates with you?  These pieces incorporate so many things that are beautiful to me.  I love the look and feel of linen, of embroidery and crochet.  A pencil line can make me swoon.  And the birds who live on water - definite swoon!

I dyed the linen with tea.  You who are familiar with tea dying, is there a particular brand of green tea that gives a nice dark green color?

I find it amazing, too, when you get a good idea it seems that several more ideas will hit; they come on like a thunderstorm!  So my head has been swimming this weekend with images and ideas and trying to decide what to do next.  I want to do it all at once.  I'm still trying to figure out how to morph into two people and how to add about 7 more hours in between 1:00PM and 5:00PM.  It appears that's when I need them most.

So fortuitous that the theme this week over at Mixed Media Monday is Wings!  I love winged creatures.  They make me happy:)

The pelican is up in my Etsy shop.  The ibis will be there in a little bit, and I'll be working on some swans next.
